Scent Of a Woman



The most frequent compliment that I’ve been given all my life it’s probably not even “you’re so pretty”, but rather “You smell so good!”. Yes, it’s true, I admit it , but it couldn’t be otherwise, because, to tell you the truth, I put an effort into it. A lot of people asks me what’s the secret for having such a nice smell and I never hide it from them – it’s to wear [lots of ] perfume! In fact no accessory is more outstanding of someone´s personality than the scent he/ she exhales. This is so because odour is inevitably associated to memories and it can wake them back up when we considered them already aslept or irremediably lost. I am not a person of light scents. To me, the scent of a perfume has to be intense, warm, intoxicating, mysterious, involving. It has to announce my arrival and to stress out my exit, but without superseding myself, rather, being my avatar instead. During Winter it must contain oriental and strong notes, warm woods, an amber, tonka bean or chocolate base, it must be charismatic, exuberant, exotic and it has to have spices, it has to convey authenticity, it has to have the power of grabbing attention, involving those who surround me in an intimate atmosphere; it has to be discreetly insinuating, translating/ revealing who I am. During Springtime I usually change into more floral perfumes, but not really lackluster and thus I am a garden of flowers, a bowl of wild berries or a breeze of wind and sea. Invariably I call on perfumes whose base note is that of jasmine, pink pepper, grapefruit, blackcurrant and roses. I can’t leave home without spraying perfume, it’s my second skin, it has the power of completing me, of making myself feel self-assured, assertive and confident. Although I have already tried many others and alternate them frequently, these are the perfumes to which I come back, invariably, year after year, whenever I miss them or someone passes by on the street wearing them and they vivify my selective memory of ineffable recollections. Because there are perfumes that impregnate themselves in our soul, and remain there, like a tattoo!
