Tiramisu

This is my Italian tiramisu with a Portuguese twist - the traditional brandy was replaced by our good and delicious liqueur Beirão and there was nothing left to be desired in regards to this replacement, in fact, quite the opposite. It is an  irresistibly good-looking dessert, super simple to bake where all the ingredients blend and merge in a hodgepodge of flavors and textures that translate beautifully into a decadent pleasure.

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg whites
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 500gr of mascarpone cheese
  • 300gr ladyfinger biscuits
  • 3 cups of strong coffee (with sugar)
  • 1 shot of liquor Beirão
  • cocoa powder to dust in the middle
  • dark chocolate to sprinkle on top

In a large bowl beat the egg yolks with the sugar until it forms a medium yellowish light cream. Add the mascarpone cheese to room temperature and mix. Then add the egg whites and mix gently. In a separate bowl put the coffee with sugar already cooled and the shot of  Beirão Liquor and dip the biscuits quickly  [the biscuit should not be very soaked]. Arrange the ingredients in a rectangular tray in this order: a first layer of biscuit, one layer of cream, one layer of chocolate powder, another biscuitlayer, a new layer of the cream and the latter has to be of grated dark chocolate. Take to the refrigerator, preferably overnight. Serve cold.
