Daurade Aux Herbs - Chilhood Memories #10

Fish dishes are a requirement some days of the week at my place specially when the weather is sunny and we want to enjoy meals outside. I love going to the market to buy the fish reallly fresh, when it comes directly from the sea and I find it amusing to watch the fishmongers discuss prices and trying to steal costumers form one another. It reminds me of my youth days, when going to the market weekly with my mom to buy fish was a truly mortification. As soon as we approched theentry of the market I would begin to feel almost nauseated by the smell of the fresh fish and would  try anything to talk her out of the idea, without any hope of success, obviously. For years I avoided fish, most certainly because of that experience. Now that my mom no longer can go with me due to her aging I feel most nostalgic and touched when I go there for the memories it evokes. As for this dish, it is so appetizing that it surely deserves you give it a try!

Ingredients:
  • two daurades [sea brim fish]
  • extra virgin oilive oil
  • 1 lemon
  • onion
  • garlic
  • chili
  • spices
  • parsley
  • a glass of white wine

Empty, scale and clean the fish [I had this done at the market by the fishmonger]. In atray put the daurades and season with sliced onions, chopped garlic, a bit of chilli, parsley, spices and some lenon slices. Water ith extra virgin olive oil, a glass of wghite wine and season with salt. Take to the pre heated oven at 200º for about 30m, gently turninthe fish over during the cooking process so that it is crisp on both sides. Garnish with  fried poptatoes and boiled vegetables - cauli-flower, brocolli, baby carrots and green beans.

  4. Adoro douradas, mas para mim têm de ser grelhadas. Já eu ansiava pelas manhãs de sábado para poder ir com os meus pais ao mercado comprar peixe, adorava demais ir á praça, cenas maradas looool!!

  5. Thank you for having it scaled and cleaned by the fishmonger. Makes me feel like less of a wimp. My grandmother did this, but I never learned.

Every Friday during your Catholic childhood, yes? Thank God you had fresh fish, we had to do with tuna from a can!
